Project Description

Largely inspired by the architecture of the Shaker communities, this wooden house militates for the Shakers’ state of mind: a childlike simplicity; 3 volumes with gable roof gather the three functions, habitation, office and garden shed. The wooden siding, made of simple planks nailed over each other and placed horizontally as in the XVIIIth century, creates effects of lighting that change with the seasons. The alignment of openings and windows creates transparencies: “we see through the house.” The house is built with the aim of drastic economy of (financial) means and materials but with a keen eye for detail: robust and cheap materials, parquets and cupboard doors are reused, for a cost below 100 000 euros.
